Weekly Message: His Love - What We Say When We Serve
Last Friday and Saturday we witnessed an outpouring of miracles as so many of you donated and/or participated in the annual Share the Harvest Fair. It was exciting and heartwarming to visit with so many old and new friends from our community.
In a gathering with fair volunteers Saturday morning, Sister Jasper, the leader of the Community Connections Committee, was overcome with emotion as she shared her testimony of how the Savior’s love is changing lives right here in Taylorsville.
If you will permit me, I’d like to talk about that for a few minutes today…
Serving our sisters and brothers has been a hallmark of membership in God’s kingdom since Adam and Eve. It was re-emphasized by the Savior Himself when He taught the two great commandments, and then again at the close of His mortal ministry when He said, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these, my brethren, ye have done it unto me. (Mark 12:28-31, Matthew 25:40)
One of the great truths of life is this…
A person’s actions will almost always tell what they really believe...who they really are.
And last weekend we got a glimpse of who you really are…
Those who worked for hours prior to the fair and donated handmade crafts, produce or goodies…
Those who spent hours at one of the booths visiting with interested visitors…
Those who prepared the food…
Those who performed…
Those who cheered and encouraged the performers…
Those who visited with a longtime friend…
Those who struck up a conversation and made new friends…
You were all part of an experience that says a lot… about who you are and what you believe.
No matter how the Share the Harvest Fair may grow or evolve in coming years, it will never be about how many people came…
It will always be about how many people gave…how many people served in some way…
And it will be about the Love of the Savior reflected through our actions toward each other as sisters and brothers.
There is nothing purer than a gift from the heart.
I feel honored to be among so many who give so kindly and so willingly.
May we feel God’s strength and His joy as we continue to serve…
I love you all.
