Weekly Message: Looking Toward the Future

I am so excited that this coming year, our course of study for Come Follow Me will be the New Testament!

One of the fundamental truths we learn from the eyewitness accounts of the Savior’s apostles is that His gospel is the healing salve for all spiritual wounds. It is a catalyst for experiencing the joy of spiritual association and it is the inspiration to rise above the course and base things of the world.

As we prayerfully study the New Testament, I know each of us can feel closer to the Savior and to our Father in Heaven. Let’s use this year as a springboard to make inspired changes in our lives through daily repentance and daily remembrance.

I am grateful to our Father in Heaven for sending His only begotten Son to redeem us from the grasp of the adversary.

I pray that each of us may look forward to the new year with excitement, hope, and humility.

2023 will be an exciting and unprecedented year!

In just a couple of weeks, we will hold our first stake conference of the new year (Jan. 14,15). We are planning the conference to be a great gathering event in which we can receive spiritual strength and inspiration…and share the joy of association that brings the Lord’s Spirit into our midst. (Matthew 18:20)

I will share more next week about our plans for the conference. Until then, here are some ideas you may want to consider for your individual conference preparation…

• Invite a friend or loved one to attend the conference with you

• Invite a friend or loved one to attend the temple with you prior to the conference

• Identify at least one Christ-like attribute you would like to “work on” in 2023 and make a plan to accomplish it.

• Identify at least one way you would like to serve others in 2023 and make a plan to accomplish it.

• Identify at least one way you can be better prepared for the dedication of the Taylorsville Temple and make a plan to accomplish it.

• Read or re-read the For the Strength of Youth Guide

• Read or re-read the Children and Youth Program Guide

• Any other preparatory activity you feel inspired to do
