Upcoming Special Events

• This Saturday, we will hold our annual Community Winter Clothing Drive from 9-10 am in the stake center. Please invite friends and neighbors to participate as donors or as recipients. If you have items you’d like to donate, please bring those at 8 am.

• On Saturday, February 4 at 10 am we will hold a Stake Women’s Conference. All young women and sisters are invited and a lunch will be shared.

2023 certainly has the makings of an unprecedented year in our community with unprecedented opportunities to grow personally, share with others, and move forward with faith.

One of the main purposes of our stake conference was to encourage all of us to take the necessary steps to draw closer to the Savior; to make choices each day that are consistent with our covenants as disciples. We had the added focus of recognizing how each of us can play a role in developing the divine potential of our youth and children; fostering their discovery and development of the gifts they have received from God.

Our hope is that everyone who attended identified one or two things they would like to change or improve. I encourage all of us to make time to study all of the talks.

I particularly took note of something that Roberto Perkins taught in the General Session. He helped us see a trend that is becoming more distinct as the Second coming draws nearer.

When home and visiting teaching became ministering, President Nelson characterized the change as a “higher and holier” way. In a similar vein, Roberto explained that the new For the Strength of Youth guide is meant to give us a Christ-centered, principle-based framework for decision-making, rather than a list of rules to follow.

Audrey Gale’s thoughtful message complimented this idea with examples of faithful living in the face of opposition. I was grateful for the insight she shared about 1 Nephi 3:7. We often refer to this scripture as an example of obedience, but Audrey pointed out that our obedience is based on trusting that God will always “provide a way for us to accomplish the things He commands”. That is a very “faith-increasing” idea!

The conference was a wonderful time for us to gather and reflect on life-changing principles and feel the love of our Savior. I hope it will be a springboard to unprecedented personal and spiritual growth in 2023.
